(Press release) Fellow Caymanians and residents of our beloved isle Cayman, It is with great pride and hope for our beautiful country of Cayman that today, February 21st, 2021, I announce that I will be an independent candidate in the upcoming 2021 general elections for the constituency of George Town East. For too long, we have watched successive governments, especially the 2017-2021 administration, with great frustration, due to the lack of integrity, ethics, and their clear inability to move this country forward. This previous administration displayed that they very competently know how to serve their own self-interests undemocratically, however they very evidently are unable to manage and lead this country competently, a sentiment echoed by many other concerned citizens, the people who elected them in the first place. Caymanians are tired of feeling unheard in our plights for progressive and positive, tangible change, which is long overdue in these Islands. In 2020, our country and our planet faced many unexpected challenges and trials, from a pandemic wreaking havoc globally, to watching our elected representatives remain silent on a government leader violently assaulting a member of our community. These beautiful islands are long overdue for a government that puts its people and the planet, over profit or external interests, first. It’s time for a change, and it’s time for this country to move into the 21st century, by electing mature, visionary, dedicated representatives with unwavering integrity, who put the peoples’ needs first, and who advocate on behalf of all within the Cayman community. We are long overdue for leadership which inspires and supports the Cayman Islands and its people to sustainably reach their full potential. Like the majority of people, I was raised to know the difference between right and wrong, that there are consequences to actions, to help those less fortunate than I, and to do unto others as I would have done unto me. For the past 4 years, we, the citizens of Cayman, have witnessed our government disregard these basic morals, disappointingly continuing to let us, the citizens, and this country down with their collective lack of integrity and political immaturity. Cayman, I urge you to vote with your childrens’ futures in mind on April 14th: your vote gives a voice to the voiceless – the planet that cannot speak up for itself, children who don’t know they need a better education until it’s too late, and for marginalized communities who need greater legislative protections. Over the next few weeks leading up to election day, I greatly look forward to meeting you, the people of Cayman, and the constituents of GTE to continue to listen to your community concerns, and to learn how you wish for your next Member of Parliament to represent you over the next 4 years. Know that, if elected, I will serve these Islands and the GTE constituency with the utmost integrity, dedication, and compassion. Thank you,

Emily DeCou

  1. (Disgruntled Voter) says:

It is a shame, she seems like a good candidate. She however will not win this election. She is going up against the leader of one of Caymans political parties, aswell as a political icon. Wish her the best nonetheless.

  2. Joe says:

Uhhh… so what exactly does she plan to do if elected? Bunch of political double speak: fluffy statements but nothing tangible. No promises, no platform.. PASS.
