50 Candidates declare for 2021.

Elvis Mckeever nominated to run in Cayman Brac East.

50 candidates have formally declared to run in the early 2021 elections. This is the smallest number of candidates for a long time, which is likely due to The Premier’s decision to move the elections to April.

Several newcomers are running this election cycle, including cannabis activist Elvis Mckeever, who is running a single issue campaign, on legalising cannabis for recreational use.

There are a couple of crowed races, including George Town East, George Town West, North Side and Newlands, with four candidates seeking office in those districts.

Real Cayman News had the opportunity to speak to Sammie Jackson, Johann Moxam, Malcom Anthony Eden, Sabrina Turner, Dr Kenrick Webster and Alric Lindsay, seen in the video below.

As the campaign season formally starts, Real Cayman News will be filming public meetings, interviewing candidates and hosting forums, with candidates running against each other.
