Rapid Antigen tests to arrive in Cayman.

(RCN) Rapid Antigen tests are set to arrive in the Cayman Islands, on the British Airways flight on Monday. The tests will be used instead of the PCR tests, which take hours to process. The rapid test can be done at home and takes 30 minutes for a result to appear. The antigen test is not as effective as a PCR, but can still detect the virus up to 70% of the time.

The tests will be used in schools, as children under the age of 12 cannot receive the Covid-19 vaccine. It will also help curve the current outbreak in Caymans primary schools. Once the large shipment of antigen tests arrives, it will be available for members of the public to use.

It is still unknown how the tests will be distributed. The United Kingdom has a public-private partnership between Boots Pharmacy and the NHS.
