(RCN) Major US airline United has made a return to Grand Cayman, after almost 2 years. 4 United flights (often dubbed as one of America’s “Big Three” airlines) touched down at Owen Roberts International Airport on Saturday 12th of February, from Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago and Houston, The Caymanian Times (CT) reported.

The ceremony was attended by Miss Cayman Islands Universe Georgina Kerford, Tourism Minister Kenneth Bryan, Deputy Premier and Minister for Finance Chris Saunders, and Director of Tourism Rosa Harris.

“Cayman is open for business. We are very happy to know that we have four flights from the United brand on one day, and it is a signal of the necessary steps to get Cayman back to where it needs to be, in respect of the tourism industry. Hopefully, we will be making some more changes soon to make it even better. I’m happy from a global perspective that the world is learning how to live with COVID,” Minister Kenneth Bryan remarked. Despite being open for business, The Cayman Islands still has entry requirements, including proof of Covid-19 vaccination, 24-hour pre-arrival tests, and 3 rapid antigen tests on days 2,5, and 10 of your stay. You must get travel clearance from Travel Cayman.

The United Airlines flights will operate on weekends initially, with the Houston flight becoming daily on the 4th of March. Flights from Chicago, Newark and Dulles will be on weekends, The CT reported.

The other 2 of the big three (American Airlines and Delta) are expected to return to Grand Cayman in March, and Southwest will also return.
