(RCN) The Health Services Authority (HSA) has confirmed that a mental health hub for youth will be opened, The Cayman Compass reported. The hub will be housed at the Cayman Islands Hospital, and it will be run in partnership with the HSA and the Alex Panton Foundation (APF).

“It is our goal that our young people will be able to receive specialized mental health care in an environment that suits their needs.” Minister of Health Sabrina Turner, speaking at the fifth annual AFP youth mental health symposium, The Cayman Compass reported.

The hub will be open 24 hours a day and serve as a walk-in facility. Children and adolescents can get immediate support from staff. The HSA is paying for the site’s renovations, and the APF will pay for furniture at the hub. The APF is accepting donations here. Law firm Maples has also donated a non-emergency vehicle to the hub, The outlet reported. (RELATED: Alex Panton Foundation Encourages Teens To Reach Out For Help)

Minister Turner gave an update on the mental health facility, which is expected to be completed in fall 2022.

“This facility is being established for residents of the Cayman Islands, who have a serious and persistent mental illness. It will allow them to be cared for holistically in a safe and secure environment reflecting a therapeutic approach to care, with the prime objective of being integrated back into their communities” Minister Turner speaking at the APF symposium.

The East End Facility will have 9 six bedroom cottages, being able to house 54 patients at anytime, on 15 acres of land.
