The police on high alert: multiple patrols and roadblocks, one arrest on Friday in West Bay.

After a turbulent week marked by two close murders, violence and armed robbery, the government breaks the silence and does so directly with Premier Wayne Panton, who has made the following statements:

“The past week we have had a number of tragedies and crimes committed in our community, which had an impact in our community, causing pain, grief and concern. It is absolutely regrettable and unacceptable.

We have a small group of criminals in our community and there are people who interact and associate with them, facilitating their activities. Our community it is better than that. We must cooperate and be committed to address these issues to the relevant authorities, having zero tolerance towards these criminals, who cannot be part of a beautiful place like the Cayman Islands. We must look after each other and our collective community interests”.

In response to these events, there has been a large deployment of agents in recent days, with various roadblocks and police cars patrolling the West Bay area.

The major police operation resulted in one arrest of a 20-year-old from Bodden Town on Friday night at the Yacht Club roundabout, for unlicensed possession of firearm, which is possibly related to the recent crimes.

A second suspect, identified as Justin Kyle Jackson, managed to escape from the police pursuit.

Jackson, who was arrested four years ago for stabbing another man six times when he was only 17, is believed to be living in West Bay and to be violent, armed and dangerous. The police issued a wanted notice for him, inviting to avoid direct approach and to call 911 immediately if seen around.

The recent wave of violence that has hit the country is finally starting to find concrete answers, faces and strong reactions from the government and local police, in the hope that order can soon be restored as soon as possible in the island.
